| May 11-27, 2012 |
THE FANTASTICKS tells the story of a young man and the girl next door, whose parents have built a wall to keep them apart. The youngsters nevertheless contrive to meet and fall in love. Their parents, meanwhile, are congratulating themselves, for they have erected the wall and staged a feud in order to achieve, by negation, a marriage between their willfully disobedient children. A narrator sets the imagined scene and, in due time, progresses to the role of professional abductor convincing the giddy youngsters that they are deeply embroiled in a melodramatic encounter in a garden under the moonlight. The evening itself is entirely concerned with the notion that children – of whatever age – cannot fall in love unless their love is forbidden. |

In Honor of All of Our Service Men & Women: Past, Present & Future The Palace Theatre presents Texas State Theatre Department's Production of HURRICANE SEASON by G. Flores Directed by Laura T. Garza with TripWire Theatre & Dream A Little Productions Love & Pain vs. Past & Present. When a beloved World War I Veteran is forced to confront his son in law, a Viet Nam Veteran, about the horrors witnessed in combat he is reminded of his own reoccurring nightmares. Coming face to face with their own terrors and each other, the two men must find common ground before irreparable damage is done to those they love most. Hurricane Season is a gripping story of grief, compassion, and finding a way to move on. Set in the Rio Grande Valley in 1970, the play explores Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, before its official diagnosis, and its effects on a multi-cultural family infected by war and their struggle to love through their grief. But at what cost? Hurricane Season is a nationally recognized and award winning original play by San Antonio's own G. Flores. Flores, a military veteran, just received his Master of Arts in Playwriting at Texas State University. This year 3 of his plays advanced to the KCACTF National Festival in Washington, DC where Flores was named the Ken Ludwig Scholarship Award recipient for his playwriting body of work thus far, including Hurricane Season. | Playwright(s): Based on the book by Mo Willems Music by Michael Silversher |
Based on the Caldecott medal-winning book by Emmy Award-winning writer Mo Willems (who proves he is just as funny writing books as he was as the head writer for Sesame Street), this play tells the tale of a father-daughter trip to the laundromat. Dad throws everything into the washing machine and the dryer, including his toddler Trixie’s favorite stuffed animal, Knuffle Bunny. Dad distractedly leaves the bunny in the dryer and takes Trixie home. Unfortunately, Trixie’s desperate cries (“Aggle flaggle klabble!”) come across as meaningless baby talk. How will Trixie get her favorite Knuffle Bunny back? You’ll find out in this wonderful play originally commissioned by The Kennedy Center. |

The Drowsy Chaperone opens on a youngish man sitting alone in his living room on a gray day feeling “a little blue.” To cheer himself up, he plays his favorite record – a Broadway cast recording of The Drowsy Chaperone – and describes it to his audience. There’s the starlet who’s giving it all up for love, her fiancée, the tipsy chaperone, two gangsters posing as chefs, Trix the Aviatrix, and many more. Through the sheer force of his enthusiasm, the show comes to Technicolor life. It’s a great big NEW old fashioned musical for the whole family. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Three love stories, a murder mystery, and a nuclear espionage plot converge in this noir comedy about marriage and other explosive devices. It's 1952: America's on the verge of the H-bomb, Dwight Eisenhower's on the campaign trail, and I Love Lucy's on Monday nights. Meanwhile, Senator Joe McCarthy's daughter just got engaged to a Soviet spy, and Boston detective Maggie Pelletier has to find out who dumped the dead guy in the Harbor - or else lose out on a honeymoon in Havana. A blunt-nosed, sharp-eyed look at love and tying, untying, and retying the knot. PG-Comedy |

| ComedySportz Weekly Improv Show |
| ComedySportz San Antonio |
| Every Saturday night |
ComedySportz is the Alamo City's original fast-paced, family-friendly improvisational comedy, played as a sport. Two teams take turns making up scenes, playing games and singing songs – and the audience votes on which team they like the best. It's all presided over by a referee, who keeps things moving, calls the ComedySportz fouls and takes suggestions shouted out by the audience before each game. If you've seen TV's Whose Line Is It Anyway? or Improv-A-Ganza, you've got the basic idea, although ComedySportz's two-team competitive format ensures a fast-paced, high-energy show - and seeing this live show is very different from watching a TV show. |
