What is TheatreASAP??
San Antonio Theatre Coalition's (SATCO's) Annual
24-hour
theatre making event.
Friday night: Local Playwrights gather and draw props, phrases and an outline of a cast (they don't know actors' names) and a San Antonio related line of dialogue to incorporate into short scripts they will write overnight.
Saturday morning: Local Actors and Directors meet at 8am and spend the next 12 hours memorizing, rehearsing and staging those scripts.
Saturday night: The Show goes on at 8pm!
In past years, TheatreASAP has earned an enthusiastic response from audiences and critics. Deborah Martin of the San Antonio Express-News described the 2008 event as “an entertaining showcase for the city’s theatre community”, while Kiko Martinez of the San Antonio Current, reviewing the 2005 showcase, wrote, “TheatreASAP holds creativity's feet to the fire, but the shotgun wedding is a happy one.” Details regarding Auditions and Call for Writers and Directors will be announced closer to the event.
